Summary

Whitley Road Elementary in Watauga, TX, is a PK-4 school serving 323 students as part of the highly-rated Keller Independent School District (Isd), which ranks in the top 25% of Texas districts.

Whitley Road stands out for its strong investment in smaller class sizes, with a student-teacher ratio of 11.6:1 and spending of $12,953 per student—35% higher than nearby Keller ISD peers like Bluebonnet Elementary and Friendship Elementary. This investment is particularly effective for students from low-income backgrounds, as the school ranks in the 78th percentile for this subgroup—19 points higher than its overall state ranking. However, the school's overall performance sits in the 59th percentile statewide, which is lower than the district average. A notable data quirk: the school shows 100% proficiency in 5th-grade math for three consecutive years, but since Whitley Road only goes to 4th grade, this is likely a reporting artifact and not reflective of current students.

Compared to nearby schools, Whitley Road offers a more efficient educational environment than its closest neighbor, Newman International Academy Watauga, a charter school that spends 44% more per student but has a 26:1 student-teacher ratio and lower test scores. Just 1.7 miles away, Willis Lane Elementary achieves higher test scores with a much lower percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch (15.7% vs. Whitley Road's 58.8%). While Whitley Road's gifted program has seen a significant decline from the 91st to the 30th percentile in recent years, the school remains a solid choice for families seeking small class sizes and strong support for diverse learners within the Keller ISD system.

Open Quote I have been involved with Whitley Road for 11 years. Like all parents I have had some issues but every issue I have ever had has been handled quickly and professionally. Parents are encouraged to get involved and they have an open door policy. The staff don't see the kids as students, to them they are their kids. The all go above and beyond to make sure the kids develop a love for learning. The school has a lot of after school activities and events. The PTA tries to host a variety of events and the teachers always help with the events. Even if those events are in the evening and require the teachers to give up time with their own family. One down side is the parent involvement could be better. This is not a reflection of the school but of the parents. We have a lot of working families that can't be involved as much as others, Even without the parent involvement the school still has several events and after school activities fort the kids.
