Summary

Timberline Elementary in Grapevine, TX, is a PK-5 school serving 593 students within the highly-rated Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (Isd), and it is currently in the midst of a remarkable academic turnaround that sets it apart from nearby schools.

The most striking story at Timberline is its dramatic improvement. After years of ranking in the bottom 20-35% of Texas elementary schools, the school made a massive leap to the 55th percentile (3 stars) in the 2025-2026 school year. This jump from the 18th percentile the year prior represents one of the most significant single-year improvements in the area. The school is now excelling with specific student groups, with White students ranking in the 72nd percentile and Special Education students in the 69th percentile. This progress is broad-based, with 3rd-grade math proficiency jumping from 39% to 55% and 4th-grade reading from 45% to 59%. However, 5th-grade Science remains a critical weakness, with only 16.44% of students proficient, lagging far behind the gains seen in Reading and Math.

Timberline serves a student population that is far more economically disadvantaged than any of its nearby peers, with 78.41% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. This rate is over eight times higher than nearby top-performing schools like Heritage Elementary (10.78%) and Taylor Elementary (6.85%) in the same district. The contrast is especially stark with its closest neighbor, Glenhope Elementary (0.9 miles away), a 5-star, 98th-percentile school with only 8.64% economically disadvantaged students. Despite these challenges, Timberline maintains a lower student-teacher ratio of 12.6:1, suggesting a potential investment in smaller class sizes to address student needs. The school is a high-challenge environment that is demonstrating significant progress and outperforming expectations for its demographic profile.

Open Quote My granddaughter who lives with me attends Timberline Elem. she is in the 2nd grade now. While she struggles with reading (most of my family has dyslexia) the school has worked with her to help her and now she is being tested in 2nd grade. She loves the school and they do all they can to focus on the positive things that she can do which I believe is the way you should teach. Close Quote
