Summary

Gunstream Elementary in Frisco, TX, is a high-performing public school serving 725 students in grades PK-5, part of the highly-rated Frisco Independent School District (Isd), and has shown a clear upward trajectory, climbing from the 81st to the 94th percentile in state rankings over the past five years.

Gunstream stands out for its exceptional support of advanced learners and English Language Learners (ELL). It ranks in the 97th percentile for serving Gifted and Talented students, a level that rivals top-tier schools like Talley Elementary and McSpedden Elementary. Additionally, its ELL program ranks in the 94th percentile, a remarkable achievement that far surpasses nearby Christie Elementary, which has a much higher percentage of ELL students but significantly lower test scores. The school is a "reading powerhouse," with 88.39% of 5th graders proficient in reading, outperforming the district average by nearly 8 points and the state average by 30 points. However, math performance is more mixed, with 5th-grade math scores falling slightly below the district average for the past three years—a persistent trend worth noting.

Gunstream is a reliable, high-quality option in a neighborhood with a wide range of school performance. It significantly outperforms nearby schools like Bright Academy (48th percentile), Christie Elementary (76th percentile), and Shawnee Trail Elementary (71st percentile), though it is not in the "super-elite" tier of schools like Norris Elementary and Liscano Elementary, which consistently rank in the 99th percentile. The school's consistent upward trend over five years is a powerful indicator of effective leadership and teaching, making it a strong choice for families seeking a school that is both high-performing and continuously improving.

Open Quote Lower grade teachers are excellent. Grades 3 and up questionable. KIds endure bullying from teachers and other children. Behavior contol measures include public shaming and humiliation. Reports to administrators fall on deaf ears and never address staff, instead blame parents or children for issues. Close Quote

Open Quote I think Gunstream has a great lower grade program, but after 2nd grade, the children are embarrassed in class in front of their piers, and left to fend for themselves against bullies. It really saddens me that my son that used to love school now dreads it, since he is one of the nice kids that gets picked on. The teachers sit outside at recess gossiping and not really watching what goes on. Then when the kids try to tell they are told not to tattle. My son that once loved school is now dreading each day. I am very sad about this all and I am hoping that they figure out you can't stop caring just because the kids get older. Other than that, love the younger grades and the work the teachers do and effort they put into it. I hope things change before my son is so depressed there is no hope left about school! Close Quote
