Summary

Oakhurst Elementary is a PK-5 public school in the Fort Worth Independent School District (Isd), serving 466 students in a high-poverty community where over 88% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This school has staged a remarkable turnaround, rising from the 32nd percentile statewide in 2023-2024 to the 61st percentile in 2025-2026—its highest ranking in nearly a decade—earning a 3-star rating and making it a standout performer among nearby schools.

Oakhurst’s strongest differentiator is its exceptional mathematics performance. In 3rd and 4th grade math, proficiency rates are well above the district average and significantly higher than every nearby school, including Moore M H Elementary and Charles Nash Elementary. The school also excels at supporting its most vulnerable students, ranking in the 75th percentile for Special Education and the 70th percentile for English Language Learners (ELL)—a stark contrast to the district’s overall low ranking. Its bilingual or dual-language program appears highly effective, with Spanish-language STAAR scores in reading and math dramatically outperforming district averages. While Riverside Applied Learning Center (1.74 miles away) has a slightly higher overall rank (69th percentile) and lower poverty rate, Oakhurst achieves impressive results with a more disadvantaged population, particularly in math.

Despite strong gains in reading and math, science remains a challenge—only 24.24% of 5th graders were proficient in 2024-2025, though this still beats the district average. An interesting shift has occurred in gender performance: female students now far outpace male students (64th vs. 55th percentile), reversing a trend from two years ago. Overall, Oakhurst’s sustained, rapid improvement—a 9-percentile-point jump in just one year—signals that recent changes in curriculum or leadership are having a profound positive impact, making it a school to watch for families seeking strong academic growth in a supportive environment.

Open Quote From several years experience I can safely say this school could be much better. Parents are not being engaged properly in the PTO. Meetings are rarely held. This school teaches geared to standardized testing. The majority of students are in afteschool tutoring! Everything is done in a hurry without much vision or thought. No nap or rest time for kindergarteners. No snack time for students. Some are on a computer learning program all day without recess. It is sad. Close Quote

Open Quote Great school and could see positive changes in my child's attitude. We came from natha howell and would definately not recommend that school. Principal lets bullying from teachers happen and does nothing about when you tell her about it. Avoid that school at all costs! Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter use to go to Natha Howell but because the bullying got so bad and the principal did nothing about it I decided to put her at this school. She is so happy and whenever I have a problem with anything the principal talks to me and something is done about it. Her teachers are all real good with telling me how she is doing in class and if there is any problems with her education. Close Quote
