Summary

Moore Elementary is a PK-5 school in Corpus Christi, TX, serving 484 students within the Corpus Christi Independent School District (Isd), and it stands out as a school on a strong upward trajectory despite serving a community where over 90% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch—a poverty rate significantly higher than nearby schools like Barnes Elementary (52.57%) and Kolda Elementary (45.71%). After years of ranking in the bottom 20-30% of Texas elementary schools, Moore has climbed to the 46th percentile statewide, showing broad-based improvement across multiple student groups.

One of the school's most notable strengths is its exceptional performance with African American students, who ranked in the 83rd percentile statewide in the most recent year—a dramatic turnaround from the 14th percentile just two years prior. Moore also consistently excels with English Language Learners, ranking in the 78th percentile. In 3rd grade mathematics, students achieved a 54.76% proficiency rate, outperforming both the district (44.9%) and state (44.33%) averages, and even surpassing higher-ranked nearby schools like Smith Elementary (48.94%) and Jones Elementary (50%). However, 4th grade remains a critical area for growth, with reading and math scores falling below district and state averages, and 5th-grade science has consistently lagged behind.

Moore's progress is especially impressive when compared to Faye Webb Elementary, located less than a mile away, which is a top-performing school (90th percentile) with a much lower poverty rate (50.47%). This contrast highlights the challenges Moore faces and the significance of its recent gains. While the school has improved overall, performance for "At Risk" students remains a concern, and future data will be key to seeing if this group benefits from the upward trend. For parents, Moore Elementary represents a school that is actively rising to meet its students' needs, with targeted successes in math and specific student groups that suggest effective interventions are taking hold.

Open Quote The School Environment: Overall I couldn't have asked for a more welcoming environment from the staff to the kiddos. Each day I lose count on all of the sweet greetings. At the end of the day, I see cheerful kids that say goodbye and have a good day as well as the staff across all grade levels. This shows me that the kids feel welcome here and that they are excited to return tomorrow.
Community Environment: The community is very supportive and the parents and staff love working together to make things happen for the kids. I know in previous years there were many family nights and clubs. This year, due to the pandemic, precautions have not stopped but simply temporarily altered afterschool activities for communities to get involved in. This has been an opportunity to do outreaches in a different way. They didn't let the pandemic stop our school spirit or celebrations. Book parades were done virtually, we had drive through fall and spring festivals, we had read-a-thons and book fairs virtually, as well as parents joining in on virtual awards ceremonies. I have also seen more collaboration than ever before between parents and teachers. During a freeze, electrical outages, and water boil shutdown across the city the school even provided pizzas for each family in hopes to assist the families going through tough times.
Classroom Environment: The classroom environment has been blessed with so many incredible resources. For example, each student has their own device to use as a resource to further their educational experience with all of these programs that the kids are excited to get on to challenge themselves in a fun way. These programs target areas that each individual student specifically needs and therefore their learning experience is tailored specifically to them and no longer the one size fits all approach like education was years ago. It is so nice to see kids eager and excited to go to school and to watch them grow despite all of the obstacles that the pandemic has brought. I feel like this whole experience has only made us stronger, work better as a team, and has given us all an update on our technical skills. It has been a fun learning experience to watch this campus work through the Covid year. Can't wait to see what it is like once the pandemic lightens up. Close Quote
