Summary

Rodriguez Elementary in Austin, TX, is a PK-6 school serving 372 students in the 78744 zip code, part of the Austin Independent School District (Isd), and has shown a notable upward trend in recent years, moving from the 16th percentile to the 35th percentile statewide in 2025-2026.

Rodriguez stands out for several unique strengths. Its 5th-grade math proficiency rate of 65.63% dramatically outperforms all nearby schools, including Harmony School Of Innovation - Austin (54.1%) and Perez Elementary (44.44%), and even exceeds district and state averages. The school also excels in serving its special education students, who rank in the 59th percentile statewide—a stark contrast to the school's overall rank. Additionally, 4th-grade reading proficiency (54.84%) is the highest among nearby AISD schools like Linder Elementary (21.28%) and Pleasant Hill Elementary (34.78%). A very low student-teacher ratio of 9.8:1 provides small class sizes, a distinct advantage over charter schools like KIPP Austin Obras (20.7:1).

However, the school faces challenges. Performance is inconsistent across grades and subjects—while 5th-grade math is a standout, 3rd-grade math proficiency is only 25%. There is also a persistent gap between female students (50th percentile) and male students (17th percentile). While the school spends more per student ($15,798) than many peers, such as Perez Elementary ($13,626), overall academic outcomes have not yet matched this investment, except in specific areas. Nearby charter schools like Harmony School Of Innovation - Austin and Smith Elementary (Del Valle ISD) consistently rank higher overall, but Rodriguez’s small class sizes and targeted strengths make it a school to watch for families seeking a supportive environment with pockets of excellence.

Open Quote I gave the school one star because I had to. Otherwise, I wouldn't have given it any. This school used to be so much better. Ever since the new principal took over, it's just plain heartbreaking to see it now. The principal is not and should not be a leader to children. If you have the option, stay away. Wait until the district realizes what they have as a principal and they get rid of her. I really wish the school could go back before the current principal came into the picture. Close Quote
