Summary

Casey Elementary is a PK-5 school in the Austin Independent School District (Isd) serving 544 students in the 78748 zip code, and it has become a standout success story with a remarkable climb from the 31st percentile statewide in 2020-2021 to the 77th percentile in 2025-2026, earning a 4-star rating.

What truly sets Casey apart is its exceptional and accelerating growth, making it a unique "turnaround" success in the area. While nearby schools like Baranoff Elementary (86th percentile) and Cowan Elementary (71st percentile) have consistently high rankings, Casey is the only school in the immediate cluster showing such dramatic, sustained improvement. This is especially impressive when compared to struggling peers like Pleasant Hill Elementary (8th percentile) and Odom Elementary (7th percentile). Casey also excels in Mathematics, with its 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders consistently outperforming both district and state averages. Furthermore, the school demonstrates exceptional equity, ranking in the 92nd percentile for African American students and the 89th percentile for Special Education students, showing that all student groups achieve at high levels.

Casey’s success is particularly noteworthy given its moderate poverty rate (57% free/reduced lunch), as it achieves results rivaling top-tier, lower-poverty schools like Baranoff (14% free/reduced lunch). The school also uses its resources efficiently, with per-student spending ($11,742) in the middle of the pack, yet delivering top-tier outcomes—a stark contrast to Odom, which spends the most ($13,210) but is one of the lowest-performing. While a dip in 4th-grade reading proficiency (52.6% in 2024-2025) and past volatility in the Gifted and Talented program are areas to watch, Casey’s overall trajectory and equitable approach make it a compelling choice for families seeking a school that is both high-performing and rapidly improving.

Open Quote This is our second year at Casey Elementary. My daughter attends 1st grade and we have had a good experience with the school. The teachers are dedicated, good listeners, responsive and in my experience, very reasonable. It's obvious they care. The Assistant Principal is wonderful and very approachable.

The only problem the school suffers from is not enough community support. It is a Title 1 school, and the parents simply don't have as many resources as say, the parents at Cowan or Zilker. We need parental support. We need children from a variety of backgrounds at the school. If we could get that, we could all support each other and this school would be truly great. My husband and I could both afford a private school for our kids if we had to, but we really believe that the neighborhood school deserves our support. And it's been a very good experience for us.
