Summary

Lively Middle is a public middle school in Austin, Texas, serving 948 students in grades 6-8. It is part of the Austin Independent School District (AISD), which is ranked 578 out of 961 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. Lively Middle has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over the past several years, dropping from a 4-star rating in 2016-2017 to a 2-star rating in recent years.

Lively Middle consistently underperforms compared to the AISD and Texas state averages on STAAR assessments, with significantly lower proficiency rates in reading, math, science, and social studies. The school's performance also varies greatly across different student subgroups, with White and multi-racial students performing relatively well, while Hispanic, African American, English Language Learners, and economically disadvantaged students struggle. Lively Middle has experienced higher dropout rates compared to the state average, ranging from 1.2% to 1.7% in recent years, and has a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a significant economically disadvantaged student population.

When comparing Lively Middle to other nearby schools within the AISD district, it becomes evident that the school is underperforming. For instance, Kealing Middle, which is also part of AISD, consistently outperforms Lively Middle across various academic measures, with significantly higher proficiency rates and a 5-star statewide ranking. These findings suggest that the school and the district should prioritize addressing the challenges faced by Lively Middle to provide a more equitable and high-quality education for all students.

Open Quote They have great courses and I especially like the magnet program. Their teachers are very helpful and productive. Close Quote

Open Quote Fulmore is a great school, and most of the teachers are very caring and interested in their students. There are a lot of fights and drugs though, but a large part of the school is not involved in either of those. The main thing I do not agree with is the dress code and how they enforce it. The students are not allowed to wear anything above the knee, even if you are wearing tights or leggings underneath. Not to mention, no hats or colored shoe laces are allowed. This rule is very obnoxious. The most aggravating thing though is that some administrators have favorites, who can basically do whatever they want. There have been several times where I have noticed girls wearing booty shorts or flip flops (the rules prohibit open toed shoes as well) and no administrators say a thing. But then if I ever dare to wear a slightly revealing top, I am told to change. Another thing I noticed is that the magnet teachers are a lot more strict then comprehensive teachers, who seem to let their students do whatever. Close Quote

Open Quote I totally love this school, I went there 3 years straight and it was great! Of course there will be drugs, gangs but you know that is found in ANY SCHOOL THAT YOU GOT TO! , you just need to be friends with the people that don't do those kinds of things and try to have fun in a safe way. And its not the school that makes the student its the ztudent that makes themselves and the kind of life they want to have. Close Quote

Open Quote Horrible drugs gangs and a staff that will not take any responsibility for your child during school hours. If they don't like the student or parent they will harass the child to no ends on any little thing it has been a waste of 3 years on my child who went in as a straight A student and is now barley passing. She is sent to the office almost daily for her clothing which is in line with the AISD dress code.Fulmore now has another dress code just for there school that parents didn't get until after school had started so most kids clothing is not appropriate for the school now. Would tell any parent to not put there child in this school. If they aren't in a gang or on drugs they will be by the time they finish. Close Quote
