Summary

Windsor Elementary in Amarillo, TX, is a consistently high-performing PK-5 school in the Amarillo Independent School District (Isd), serving 430 students with a strong track record of academic excellence that has placed it in the top 15% of Texas elementary schools for the past decade.

Windsor Elementary stands out for its superior academic performance across all grades and subjects, consistently outperforming both district and state averages in reading and math for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. For example, in 4th Grade Math, Windsor scored 58.67% proficient compared to the district's 46.8% and the state's 49.28%. The school is particularly effective at closing achievement gaps, with its Low Socio-Economic Status and Special Education students both ranking in the 95th percentile statewide in the 2023-2024 school year. While Windsor remains excellent, its state ranking has shown a slight decline from a peak of the 91st percentile in 2023-2024 to the 87th percentile in 2025-2026, a trend worth monitoring. The school also struggles significantly with its Multi-racial Students subgroup, which ranked in only the 42nd percentile in 2024-2025, a stark contrast to its overall performance.

Windsor's closest and most direct competitor is Arden Road Elementary, located just 0.94 miles away in the Canyon Independent School District (Isd), which has recently surged to the 93rd percentile (5 stars) in the 2025-2026 school year, surpassing Windsor's ranking. This creates a compelling local rivalry, as Arden Road is currently on an upward trajectory while Windsor has a longer history of consistent high performance. Windsor's per-student spending ($11,537) is higher than all nearby competitors, including Arden Road ($8,024) and Hillside Elementary ($7,297), raising questions about efficiency despite its excellent results. Families in the area have a choice between a top-tier school in a lower-performing district (Amarillo ISD) and several strong schools in a higher-performing district (Canyon ISD), such as Arden Road and Heritage Hills Elementary (84th percentile).

Open Quote The staff at Windsor is very exceptional. I currently have two kids in school here, and my oldest also was enrolled his entire elementary time. I can think of only one poor quality teacher at this school. She is presently the reading teacher for first grade. I would highly recommend this school. Close Quote
