Summary

East Fort Worth Montessori Academy is a small public charter elementary school in Fort Worth, TX, serving 131 students in grades PK-5, and operates as its own single-school district, the East Fort Worth Montessori Academy district.

This school stands out for its strong reading performance in the upper elementary grades, particularly in 5th grade, where proficiency rates have recently surpassed the state average and outperformed nearby schools like West Handley Elementary and Sagamore Hill Elementary. The Montessori method appears to be especially effective for developing advanced literacy skills by 5th grade. Additionally, the school has shown exceptional results with English Language Learners, ranking in the 77th percentile statewide for this group. However, math scores are a significant weakness, consistently falling below state averages and nearby schools like Meadowbrook Elementary, which shows a more balanced academic profile. The school also struggles to challenge its highest-achieving students, with Gifted and Talented programs ranking in the bottom 20th percentile.

Due to its small size, the school's performance can vary significantly from year to year, as a single class of students can dramatically shift overall scores. On the positive side, the school offers a more intimate learning environment with a student-teacher ratio of 14.8:1, lower than many larger schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District (Isd) and other charter networks. While science scores are low, this is a regional challenge shared by most nearby schools, including Eastern Hills Elementary and Natha Howell Elementary, suggesting a broader focus on reading and math at the expense of science instruction.

Open Quote This school is amazing. You get Montessori curriculum and philosophy, usually reserved for those who can afford private school tuition, offered by a public school. They have a great outdoor learning environment with a labyrinth, a pond, learning center, outdoor cooking area, flower gardens and a community garden where they grow food used in the dining hall. The children get to participate in raising goats, rabbits and chickens. The staff are warm and welcoming. The teachers go the extra mile. They do everything they can to make sure that my children are successful. Close Quote
