Summary

Ignite Community School - Huntsville is a public charter school in Huntsville, TX, serving 380 students in grades PK through 8, and is part of the Texas College Preparatory Academies district, which ranks significantly higher than the local Huntsville Independent School District (Isd).

This school stands out for its strong upper-grade reading program, with 6th and 8th graders achieving proficiency rates of 80.56% and 82.61% in the 2024-2025 school year—well above state averages. However, math performance is a consistent weakness across all grade levels, with 4th-grade math proficiency at just 18.92% compared to the state average of 49.28%. The school also shows a notable strength in serving its African American students, who ranked in the 66th percentile statewide in 2025-2026, a stark contrast to the school’s overall 21st percentile ranking. Nearby schools like Stewart Elementary (18th percentile) and Samuel Houston Elementary (9th percentile) in Huntsville ISD perform lower overall, while New Waverly Intermediate (67th percentile) in the higher-performing New Waverly Independent School District (Isd) outperforms Ignite but serves a less economically disadvantaged population.

Parents should be aware of the school’s volatile performance history, which has swung from the 13th percentile to the 59th percentile and back to the 21st percentile over the past decade. The school operates with a leaner budget, spending $7,823 per student compared to $10,478 at New Waverly Elementary and $8,509 at Stewart Elementary. While the school provides a higher-performing option than most nearby Huntsville ISD schools, its inconsistent results and math challenges suggest families should closely monitor their child’s progress, especially in mathematics, and consider the school’s strong reading program as a key benefit for upper-grade students.

Open Quote I first became aware of these charter schools when my own sons were having a hard time at the local public schools. I have found these schools to be great! The staff at these schools took a personal interest in my sons. In fact, one is currently attending SFA University and majoring in education. He was inspired to pursue teaching because of great teachers that he had! Close Quote

Open Quote Well I strongly disagree with the outrageous alligations that I have just read. It is true that we are entitled to our own opinion but one must question if it was so horrible why would you stay for so long. I presently have two children that attend THE WONDERFUL VISTA ACADEMY OF HUNTSVILLE and I have had three to attend THE EVER SO LOVING PREMIER HIGH SCHOOL. I have only great things to say about these schools and there staff. I would recommend my worst enemy to come and enjoy all that they have to offer. That being said Ms. Williams wont you join us. These schools cater to everyone including parents. I love it and wouldnt change a thing..........Love you Vista and Premier..... Close Quote

Open Quote I've had 4 children in Vista and Premier high school in Huntsville. Academics are well below par. My two youngest, 1st and 3rd grade, were both bullied horribly and the staff did absolutely nothing about it. My youngest was bullied to the point that he was vomiting daily. They have since been removed and will NEVER be forced to go back. It seems like there is some strange correlation between the school and the Family Faith church it is physically attached to. I would warn all others before sending their student to this school, the staff seems friendly to begin with, but if you question anything, their attitude changes very quickly! Close Quote
