Maple Elementary School faces several challenges compared to nearby schools. The school has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 32.8% to 43.7% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state average and the rates of nearby schools like Ridgeview Elementary (34.3%) and Douglas Gardens Elementary (34.3%). Academically, Maple Elementary's performance, as measured by the percentage of students proficient or better in state assessments, is consistently lower than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas.

Maple Elementary School also has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 71.08% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2023-2024 school year, significantly higher than nearby schools. While the school spends more per student ($24,995 in 2022-2023) compared to schools like Ridgeview Elementary ($22,696) and Mt. Vernon Elementary ($21,784), this higher spending does not seem to translate into better academic outcomes. The school's performance varies significantly among different student subgroups, and further investigation into the specific factors contributing to the school's challenges may be warranted to develop targeted interventions and support.
