The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #31, which is ranked 403 out of 874 districts in New York and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Academically, Tottenville High School performs in the middle range of New York high schools, with Regents exam scores generally on par with or slightly below the district average but below the statewide average in many subjects. The school stands out positively for its performance with English Language Learner and special education students, ranking in the top 25-30% of New York high schools in these areas. However, it struggles more with other student subgroups, ranking in the bottom half or bottom third for African American, Hispanic, and White students. Tottenville High School's 4-year graduation rate of around 84% is on par with the district average but below the state average, and its dropout rate of 4-5% is higher than the district and state averages.

Compared to nearby schools, Tottenville High School performs better academically than some, such as Eagle Academy, Port Richmond High School, and Concord High School. However, it lags behind the highly-ranked Staten Island Technical High School and the strong-performing CSI High School for International Studies. Addressing the school's high chronic absenteeism rate of 30-34% and the significant performance gaps between student subgroups should be priorities for Tottenville High School.

Open Quote I just have to be honest. Staten Island is not part of New York City. The school tried, they even bused in underprivileged kids. Let just be honest, the housing values does not reflect the schools performance, there is no subway, it is a rigged environment. Close Quote
