Open Quote P.S. 108 has educated my two children. The teachers work very hard and challenge the kids. Their homework is meaningful and thought provoking. The kids are mostly on level and the parents participate more than at other schools. I think it's an excellent school! Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter has attended this school since Kindergarten and is now in third grade. The educational part of this school is rather good from my daughters experience. There is an extended day tutoring (free), but here is where we go downhill. The extended day started as 5 days a week, it has now fallen to three days a week, next year September 2011 it will be down to two days a week. Sadly, I have learned that there are many children left behind in this school. My daughter has numerous friends in her class who should be at least a year or so ahead. Some where there has been extreme educational changes because of Bloomberg and not for the better. Now second problem, there is an after-school program, but it is not free, it is $200 a month but i hear will be going up and even sadder there are young unexperienced college students watching your children with no planned activities of any kind and better yet they don't actually help your child with their homework they give them the answers. Third but extremely minor there are many school trips (that's the good thing) unfortunately do not bother to apply for chaperone because there is only a small number of parents who will be picked (1 or 2) and it's usually the same parents every trip and they often do this because the teachers are close friends with the parent. Now one last issue which is extremely scary, this school (since my daughter has been attending) does receive bomb threats which we find out when a letter is sent home at the end of the day.
Last but not least small detail which I and a few other parents have experienced, seeing as how many of the teachers are young they tend to ask students personal questions about their parents OR make comments to the children that I found to be inappropriate, (not of a sexual manner) but just as if they were talking to their own children.
