Summary

Edgar B Davis is an elementary school in Brockton, MA that serves 944 students in grades K-8. The school is part of the Brockton school district, which is ranked 332 out of 348 districts in Massachusetts and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Edgar B Davis has consistently ranked in the bottom 20% of Massachusetts elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most years and a 0-star rating in 2020-2021. The school's academic performance is significantly below the state average, with proficiency rates of just 20.49% in English Language Arts and 21.11% in Math in 2024-2025, compared to 41.53% and 40.74% statewide. Nearby Mary E. Baker School and John F Kennedy also perform below the state average but generally outperform Edgar B Davis.

Despite spending more per student than the state average, Edgar B Davis continues to struggle academically, suggesting that funding alone may not be the primary driver of the school's performance. The school's student-teacher ratio of 16.2 in 2023-2024 is slightly higher than the state average, which could be a contributing factor. To address these challenges, the school and Brockton district may need to implement targeted strategies, such as conducting a comprehensive needs assessment, implementing evidence-based instructional practices, and collaborating with community partners to support student success.

Open Quote Both of my children have had great experiences at the Davis through academics and extracurricular activities over the past 10 years. The teachers take much pride in their teaching and their students. The principal is wonderful, she has her finger on the pulse of the school and her decisions have always been in the best interest of the students and staff.

I have been involved with the PTA for 10 years and I am sad to say that this is my last year as my daughter will be moving on to high school. This group of dedicated women and men are an inspiration to all and I am happy to have been a part of something bigger than I could have imagined.

All of these things and more are why The Davis K-8 is a treasure of Brockton's south side. Close Quote
