Summary

Learning First Charter Public School is an elementary school serving 667 students in grades K-8 in Worcester, MA, a city in central Massachusetts. The school is part of the Learning First Charter Public School district, which is ranked 313 out of 348 districts in the state.

Despite being part of the charter school system, Learning First Charter Public School has consistently struggled academically, ranking in the bottom 10-15% of Massachusetts elementary schools based on MCAS Next Generation test scores. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates were significantly below the state averages across all subjects and grade levels, with only 19.73% of students proficient or better in ELA and 15.42% in Math. The school's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as English Language Learners and Special Education students, who ranked in the bottom 20% of MA schools in ELA and Math.

When compared to nearby Worcester district elementary schools, such as Grafton Street, Head Start, and Vernon Hill School, Learning First Charter Public School generally performs worse academically, despite having similar demographic and resource profiles. This suggests the school may face unique challenges in effectively serving its student population, which is predominantly low-income and diverse.

Open Quote I found out that my son's 3rd grade teacher is not even licensed. The classrooms are really small, and the building is not suited for a school. I went in to visit my son's teacher and had to use the unisex bathroom. It was disgusting and smelled like urine. I have since moved my son to another school for 4th grade. Not sure how they are allowed to still teach with such low academic scores year after year Close Quote

Open Quote Learning First has gone through many changes in the last several years which have led to improved performance. They have a reputation for a teaching staff that goes above and beyond for their students and did an amazing job with remote learning during covid, especially in comparison to the other local public schools Close Quote
