Summary

Erath High School is a public high school in Erath, LA, serving 557 students in grades 9-12 and is part of the highly-rated Vermilion Parish school district. This school has a long history of academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top 15% of high schools in Louisiana for the past decade, including eight consecutive years with a 5-star rating. While its most recent ranking has settled at a 4-star level (37th out of 325 schools statewide), it remains a top performer, especially when compared to nearby schools like Abbeville High School, which is just 4.67 miles away but holds a 1-star rating with significantly lower test scores and a 4.7% dropout rate.

Erath High School truly shines in its English Language Arts program, with 85% of students proficient in English I and 89% in English II—rates that outpace both the district and state averages, as well as nearby high-performing schools like North Vermilion High School. The school also excels in math and science, with strong proficiency in Algebra I (81%), Geometry (77%), and Biology (72%). Perhaps most impressive is the school's near-perfect student retention: the dropout rate has been 0.0% for four of the last five years, a stark contrast to schools like New Iberia Senior High School (3.5%) and Westgate High School (4.1%). Additionally, the school provides outstanding support for its Special Education students, ranking 4th in the entire state in the most recent school year.

Despite these strengths, there are areas for attention. Chronic absenteeism has risen to 26.4%, which is higher than the state average (22.5%) and peers like Delcambre High School (19.2%). There is also a notable performance gap between male and female students, with males consistently ranking higher statewide. However, the school's overall stability in test scores over the last three years, combined with its exceptional English and Special Education outcomes, makes it a compelling choice for families seeking a well-rounded, high-achieving environment in the Vermilion Parish area.

Open Quote I use to go to this school and to be honest i miss it a lot.one of the things that I miss the most was the dedicated teachers that would go out of their way to make sure that you understood what was going on.Another reason why I miss this school is because it was rated high in stars and every school I have been to after this school was never the same and no were close to being as good as this one. That is why I will be enrolling back into this school this year.
