Summary

Denham Springs Junior High School in Denham Springs, LA, serves 811 students in grades 6-8 within the Livingston Parish district and has earned a strong 4-star rating, ranking in the 85th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year.

This school truly shines in Social Studies, where 75% of students are proficient—a remarkable 20 points above both the district and state averages. It also excels at supporting students from all backgrounds, particularly those with economic needs, who rank in the 88th percentile statewide. This is especially impressive given that about 74% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school has also made incredible strides with its English Language Learner (ELL) students, who jumped from the 65th to the 94th percentile in just two years—a standout achievement not seen at nearby schools like Walker Junior High or Southside Junior High. Additionally, chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically from 30% to just 9.2%, far better than the district average of 13.3% and much lower than schools like Westside Junior High (15%).

While Denham Springs Junior High faces a common challenge—a dip in 8th-grade math proficiency seen across the area, including at Live Oak Junior High—its overall upward trend sets it apart. For context, schools in the neighboring East Baton Rouge Parish, like Park Forest Middle School, often rank in the bottom 10% statewide, highlighting the strong district support in Livingston Parish. This school’s consistent growth and focus on every student make it a standout choice for families.

Open Quote This school is geared towards the best interests of the admin, not the children. Students are lumped together in classes instead of ranking them according to their ability/intelligence. There are some very good teachers at DSJH, but with their classes filled with such a broad spectrum of learning abilities they invariably teach to the lowest denominator. Close Quote
