Despite over 83% of its students qualifying for free or reduced lunch—a high level of economic disadvantage—the school consistently achieves above-average academic results, with recent proficiency rates of 74% in Math, 80% in ELA, and 61% in Social Studies. This strong performance is a testament to the school's effective instructional practices and supportive environment, making it a standout choice for families in the area.

When compared to nearby schools in the neighboring Tangipahoa Parish, Albany Upper Elementary significantly outperforms its peers. For example, its Math and ELA proficiency rates are 20 to 40 percentage points higher than schools like D.C. Reeves Elementary School and Lucille Nesom Memorial. Additionally, the school excels in managing chronic absenteeism, with a rate of just 14.9%—far lower than many Tangipahoa schools, such as Midway Elementary School (39.6%) and Perrin Early Learning Center (33.1%). This low absenteeism rate reflects a strong culture of attendance and engagement, which is a key driver of academic success.

Albany Upper also demonstrates notable strengths in supporting specific student groups, ranking in the top 11% of the state for African American students and the top 4% for Hispanic students. While its state ranking has slightly dipped from a peak in 2015-2016, its test scores have remained stable and high, indicating consistent, sustainable teaching practices. For parents considering schools in the region, Albany Upper Elementary offers a compelling option that defies the odds, achieving impressive results despite economic challenges and outperforming many neighboring schools in Tangipahoa Parish. Its success is a clear example of how a dedicated school community can make a significant difference in student outcomes.
