Summary

Greenacres Middle School in Bossier City, LA, serves 543 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Bossier Parish school district, a strong district ranked in the top third of Louisiana.

Greenacres is a solid, middle-of-the-pack school that offers a safe and effective education, especially when compared to nearby options. While it is the lowest-ranked middle school in its own district—trailing Elm Grove Middle School and Cope Middle School—it significantly outperforms schools in the neighboring Caddo Parish district. For example, just 1.5 miles away, Rusheon Middle School has proficiency rates nearly half of Greenacres'. A standout strength is the school's advanced math program: 100% of students who took the Algebra I End-of-Course exam were proficient, far exceeding district and state averages. The school also excels with English Language Learner students, who recently ranked in the 83rd percentile statewide. However, the school faces challenges with chronic absenteeism (28.3%), which mirrors a district-wide issue, and its special education program consistently ranks in the bottom 20% of the state.

For families, Greenacres represents a dependable choice in a high-performing district. It keeps nearly all students on track to graduation, with a dropout rate of virtually zero. While it may not have the top-tier scores of more affluent schools like Benton Intermediate School, it provides a stable environment and strong academic programs, particularly in advanced math, making it a worthwhile option for parents seeking a balanced middle school experience.

Open Quote Excellent principal and leadership. Great environment with students of all different cultural backgrounds all working together. Lots of activities for the students that provide tons of chances for the students to be involved. Close Quote

Open Quote All schools have their problems, but this one takes their lowest scoring kids and puts them into one class that is designed to help with remediation. However, one teacher and para cannot control a class of 20+ kids with behavior problems. When kids fight they are often returned to class with a warning or suspended for only that class. The principal, Mr. James, tried to be a friend to them instead of a disciplinarian and authority figure. Other schools in the area use the same course but have smaller classes because they trained multiple teachers not just one. Close Quote
