Summary

Double Churches Middle School is a public middle school in Columbus, Georgia, serving 442 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Muscogee County School District, which is ranked 155 out of 206 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Academically, Double Churches Middle School consistently underperforms compared to the Muscogee County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessments. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates were significantly lower than the district and state in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. When compared to nearby schools like Aaron Cohn Middle School, Blackmon Road Middle School, and Richards Middle School, Double Churches Middle School is clearly underperforming academically.

One potential factor contributing to the school's lower academic performance is the high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which ranges from 88.24% to 96.61% over the past few years. This is significantly higher than the nearby schools. Despite the relatively high per-student spending at Double Churches Middle School, the school's academic performance remains poor compared to the state and district averages, suggesting that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution. The data indicates that Double Churches Middle School has significant room for improvement, and identifying and addressing the specific factors contributing to the school's underperformance could be crucial in helping the school improve its outcomes.

Open Quote Since they changed almost the entire administration staff this year, transferred in hundreds of new students from other school zones and made DCMS a title one school. Very disappointed. My children say the new principal is discriminatory, and stands in the halls screaming at kids when others are trying to get his help. Classrooms are overfilled. already were before they made this change, and ser up an entire hall for special needs children yet say they are trying to teach them to assimilate in with other students, they dont have classes with them, lunches with then and are never in the hall with them. Most of the Office staff acts like they are doing you a favor by being there, look annoyed when you need something. Daughter got in school suspension for walking around some other students and an orange cone when those students had dropped something and were picking it up. Changed my sons schedule second half of year without even telling him and no one reached out to me when he hadnt attended the new class for 2 months, and the old class never told him he wasnt on his roster either. Open Quote Mr. Fitts is a wonderful principal. My son had great, supportive and encouraging teachers. This school has been under-ranked for a long time, but it is a hidden gem. Mr. Fitts and the teachers know my student (and me) by name and are friendly, hard working, and willing to help in any capacity to ensure these kids find success. My son blossomed here and I'm looking forward to my younger son starting Dbl Churches this fall. You'll hear nothing but praise from me. Close Quote
