Summary

Phillippi Shores Elementary School is a high-performing public school in Sarasota, FL, serving 696 students in grades PK-5 within the highly-ranked Sarasota School District. This school consistently ranks in the top 10-11% of all Florida elementary schools, earning a 4-star rating for the 2025-2026 school year, and stands out for its exceptional academic performance and remarkably low chronic absenteeism rates.

Phillippi Shores demonstrates particular strength in mathematics, with proficiency rates climbing from 81% in 3rd grade to 87% in 5th grade—a full 25 points above the state average. The school also excels in science, with 81% of 5th graders proficient compared to 60% statewide. What truly sets Phillippi Shores apart is its efficient use of resources: it spends $15,150 per student, significantly less than nearby lower-performing schools like Brentwood Elementary ($23,848) and Wilkinson Elementary ($23,696), yet achieves far superior academic results. The school's chronic absenteeism rate of just 3.0% in 2022-2023 was the lowest among all comparable schools in the area, though it rose to 15.4% in 2023-2024—still lower than most nearby schools except Southside Elementary (10.5%) and Ashton Elementary (13.9%).

Geographically, Phillippi Shores occupies a "sweet spot" in the local educational landscape. Just 1.63 miles away is Southside Elementary, a top-15 school in the state with even higher test scores, while 1.7 miles in the other direction is Wilkinson Elementary, a struggling school with high poverty and chronic absenteeism. For families seeking a reliably excellent school without the intense competition or potential housing premium of a top-20 school, Phillippi Shores presents a very attractive option. The school's consistent performance across all subjects, combined with its efficient spending and strong family-school connections, makes it a standout choice in the Sarasota area.

Open Quote Great school well managed. Kids grow in an environment where importance is given to social skills and discipline. Independence and curiosity are encouraged, although probably too little given the very strict context. The school pursues high academic goals, so be aware that your child will be pushed to work hard. Results are good. Unfortunately she/he won’t have much down time and almost no recess time.
General atmosphere and community feel was good, until they had to close the school to parents completely (except for events). They had a good badging system in the morning but a few wealthy parents apparently decided that was not enough and they wanted the other parents kept out of the school. PTO has a great influence over decisions and school management. Close Quote
