Summary

James M. Marlowe Elementary School in New Port Richey, FL, is a public school serving 513 students in grades PK-5 within the Pasco district, and it has shown a clear upward trend from a historically low-performing school to a stable 2-star institution.

Marlowe’s standout strength is its exceptional 5th-grade math program, where 64% of students were proficient in the most recent school year—10 points higher than the district average and 2 points above the state average. This sustained excellence over three years is a unique differentiator, as nearby schools like Calusa Elementary School and Anclote Elementary School do not match this performance. The school also shines in 5th-grade science, with 56% proficiency, matching the district average and outperforming peers like Cotee River Elementary School (37%) and Richey Elementary School (38%). Additionally, Marlowe has dramatically reduced chronic absenteeism from 35% to 22.9%, now lower than the district and state averages, and far better than Gulf Trace Elementary School (38.5%) and Sunray Elementary School (41.6%).

The school invests heavily in its students, spending $14,594 per pupil—significantly more than Seven Springs Elementary School ($11,551) and Plato Academy Trinity Charter School ($8,651)—and maintains a low student-teacher ratio of 13.5:1. While Marlowe outperforms demographically similar schools like Anclote Elementary School and Richey Elementary School in nearly every subject, it still trails top-performing nearby schools like Deer Park Elementary School and Athenian Academy Of Technology And The Arts. The main challenge is replicating its 5th-grade success in lower grades, but the school’s focused resources and improving attendance suggest a promising path forward.

Open Quote Extremely disappointed in the principal and staff after reporting my son is getting bullied by one fellow student in his class. This is getting to the point of having to notify the Police department, before my son actually gets hurt bad!
The lack of addressing this issue is leaving me no choice.
It really seems like the school just does not care about their students well being .
Now, seeing the ratings on the school, I can't wait just to get him out of this school, I wish I could rate the school below 1!
Sincerely, concerned parent Close Quote
