Summary

Pasco High School is a large traditional public high school in Dade City, FL, serving 1,523 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Pasco district, where nearly half of students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The school faces a critical challenge with chronic absenteeism, which at 52.7% is nearly double the district average and the highest among nearby traditional high schools—far exceeding rates at Wiregrass Ranch High School (26.8%) and Kirkland Ranch Academy Of Innovation (21.3%). This absenteeism likely drives severe academic underperformance, especially in Algebra 1 where only 14% of students are proficient compared to 62% district-wide—the lowest rate among all area traditional high schools. While the school shows relative strength in US History (61% proficient) and Biology (58% proficient), overall state rankings have declined from a 3-star school to a 1-star school over the past decade.

Interestingly, Pasco High boasts a 96.7% graduation rate that rivals top-performing schools like Wiregrass Ranch (97.1%), creating a paradox where students complete requirements without mastering core content. The school's per-student spending of $9,489 exceeds that of higher-performing neighbors like Wiregrass Ranch ($8,258), suggesting resources alone aren't the issue. Nearby Zephyrhills High School faces similar struggles with high absenteeism (42.3%) and low rankings, indicating broader challenges in eastern Pasco County. The nearby East Pasco Education Academy, an alternative school with a 6.3% graduation rate, highlights the area's educational difficulties, though Pasco High still vastly outperforms it.

Open Quote I started late in the school year and had trouble getting testing dates for the end of the school year, I'm not a fan of the math programs at all, they are now supposed to show you one problem and answer with it and you figure out the rest so I do have some struggles in the math part. Otherwise this school is big on the electives and the counselors are right there to help you to graduate on time. I do like this school but two things make me dislike the school at the same time. I was a little behind due to me not working in my freshman year and the counselor was right there to help me figure out everything so far! Close Quote
