Summary

Discovery Key Elementary School in Lake Worth, FL, serves 1,032 students in grades K-5 and is a solid, above-average school within the Palm Beach district, though it has experienced a recent decline from its former high-performing status.

Discovery Key sits in a unique "middle ground" among nearby schools. It is outperformed by top-tier neighbors like Panther Run Elementary School and Equestrian Trails Elementary, which are 5-star schools, but it significantly outperforms struggling schools such as Liberty Park Elementary School and Indian Pines Elementary School. For example, Discovery Key's 5th-grade Math proficiency (73%) is notably lower than Panther Run (86%) and Equestrian Trails (91%), yet its 3rd-grade ELA (66%) is nearly double that of Liberty Park (32%). The school also has a relatively low rate of students eligible for free or reduced lunch (28.78%), which is a demographic advantage compared to many peers, yet it has only achieved a 3-star rating, suggesting it may not be maximizing its potential. A relative strength is its chronic absenteeism rate of 19.9%, which is better than nearby schools like Cholee Lake Elementary School (37.4%) and Liberty Park (34.3%).

An interesting finding is a steady decline in 5th-grade Science scores, dropping from 59% proficiency in 2023-2024 to 56% in 2025-2026, while nearby schools like Coral Reef Elementary School (72%) and Everglades Elementary (69%) show strong improvement. Additionally, a 100% proficiency rate for 6th-grade Math is a statistical anomaly, likely reflecting a small group of advanced students rather than the general population. Overall, Discovery Key's primary challenge is to reverse its downward trend and close the gap with its high-achieving neighbors, especially given its favorable socioeconomic profile.

Open Quote Security is a joke. Kids can get in any car as long as you know childs name. 5th graders walking kindergarten students to buses. No one outside to watch children in morning before doors open and no supervision when waiting for pickup. Teachers too busy talking to each other or do not know who they are watching.
