Summary

Crystal Lakes Elementary School in Boynton Beach, FL, is a reliable, high-performing public school serving 785 students in grades PK through 5, with a strong track record of academic achievement and a favorable student-teacher ratio of 15.3:1.

This school consistently earns a 4-star rating and ranks in the top quarter of Florida elementary schools, offering a stable and predictable high-quality education. It excels particularly in science, with 73% of 5th graders proficient—13 points above the district and state averages—and shows consistent strength in English Language Arts across all grades. However, parents should be aware of a notable "4th-grade math dip": only 44% of 4th graders were proficient in math, a 32-point drop from 3rd grade and 21 points below the state average. This pattern has persisted for three years, suggesting a systemic challenge in the 4th-grade math curriculum. On the positive side, chronic absenteeism is low at 17.3%, significantly better than the Palm Beach district average of 23.4% and the state average of 31.4%, indicating strong student engagement.

Compared to nearby schools, Crystal Lakes offers a solid middle ground. It outperforms the struggling Renaissance Charter School at Central Palm (a 1-star school with dramatically lower test scores) but trails the "gold standard" Sunset Palms Elementary (a 5-star school with a 90th percentile rank). Its per-student spending of $15,067 is notably high and translates into strong results, unlike Indian Pines Elementary, which spends more but performs poorly. Addressing the 4th-grade math dip would likely propel Crystal Lakes into the top 10% of Florida schools and earn it a 5-star rating.

Open Quote Like any school, this school has its positives and it's negatives. Your child will either get a dynamite teacher who has the energy and desire to help their students succeed or he/she will get one of the teachers who are burnt out and should really consider retirement. For the most part the school seems to have decent teachers. The principal is a mixture of good and bad. I've never had an issue with her, however some parents aren't too pleased with her. My experience so far has been ok. My son seems to love the school and I've yet to experience any problems. Close Quote
