Summary

Windermere Elementary in Windermere, FL, is a top-performing public school serving 574 students in grades PK through 5 within the Orange district, and it has consistently ranked in the top 2% of all elementary schools in Florida for the past decade.

Windermere Elementary stands out as an elite academic powerhouse, particularly when compared to nearby schools. In the 2025-2026 school year, it ranked 54th out of 2,240 schools in Florida, placing it in the 98th percentile—significantly higher than other excellent local schools like Keenes Crossing Elementary (97th percentile) and Lake Whitney Elementary (96th percentile). The school’s 5th-grade science scores are particularly remarkable, with 98% of students proficient compared to the district average of 67%. This consistent excellence extends across all subjects and grades, with proficiency rates uniformly high in 3rd and 5th grade ELA and math. The school also boasts a very low chronic absenteeism rate of 11.9%, which is less than half the district average of 35.2% and significantly lower than peers like Keenes Crossing (15.0%) and Thornebrooke Elementary (16.5%).

Interestingly, Windermere’s success is not driven by high spending. The school spends $11,741 per student, which is on the lower end compared to nearby schools and nearly half the spending of the lowest-performing school in the area, Ucp West Orange Charter ($20,401 per student). This suggests that factors like strong parental involvement and effective teaching are key drivers of its outstanding results. While the school has seen a slight dip in its state ranking from a peak of 28th in 2023-2024 to 54th, it remains a top-tier choice for families seeking a consistently high-performing elementary school in the Windermere area.

Open Quote This will be my 12th year at WES as a parent. I am pleased with the school overall. Both my kids had good, dedicated teachers and the staff is available for support and feedback. The award-winning PTA is very active and the school is one of the few with a non-profit foundation: The Mustang Education Fund - which raises tens of thousands every year for technology and curriculum enhancements. Many of my friends opted out of private school because the elementary is so strong. You'd be hard pressed to find a better elementary anywhere in Orange County - public or private. Close Quote
