Summary

Innovation Preparatory Academy Of South Ft. Myers is a public school in Fort Myers, FL, serving 770 students in Pre-K through 8th grade within the Lee district, where over half of students come from low-income families.

This school has experienced a significant and sustained academic decline over the past decade, dropping from the 35th percentile statewide to the 7th percentile, earning a 0-star rating for five consecutive years. This places it among the lowest-performing elementary schools in Florida, ranking 2091 out of 2240. The most concerning area is 5th-grade math, where only 7% of students were proficient in 2025-2026—a staggering 55 percentage points below the state average. This is the lowest score in any subject or grade among nearby schools. The school also struggles with chronic absenteeism, with 35.2% of students chronically absent in 2023-2024, and has a high student-to-teacher ratio of 19.7:1, which is notably higher than other struggling schools like Colonial Elementary (14.6:1) and far above high-performing peers like Rayma C. Page Elementary (17:1).

Interestingly, the school shows a stark contrast between its middle and elementary grades. While elementary performance is critically low, the school excels in high school-level exams: 100% of students were proficient in Biology 1 and 73% in Algebra 1, far exceeding district and state averages. This suggests the school may effectively prepare a select group of advanced students, while the majority in core elementary grades are left behind. There is a glimmer of hope, as the school's rank improved slightly from the 3rd to the 7th percentile in 2025-2026, and some test scores improved year-over-year (e.g., 4th-grade ELA rose from 30% to 53%). However, the school spends the least per student ($9,130) among all nearby schools, compared to $14,469 at Colonial Elementary, raising concerns about resource allocation. Despite having a lower percentage of low-income students than Colonial, Innovation Prep performs worse overall, particularly in math, suggesting factors beyond poverty—such as instructional quality or school culture—are significant contributors to its struggles.

Open Quote There is also bully stuff there like stealing food from other students, the school does not care about this, throwing away students food, the teachers do nothing the lunchman is very mean, gross, yells at students the food tastes like crap and the lunchman is stupid no education. Now the teachers. I had a little bit of good teachers they are really rare, but most teachers were bad and did not care about you, they would give you pinkslips for no reason, yell for no reason, were very mean and did not teach you very well. Now the threats, bullying The school does not care about the bullying the parents complain but they ignore it its like they are stupid heads it goes through one ear and out the other. There has been a lot of threats like pepper spray in the vents, school shooter, bomb threats, threat to set school in fire. There are a lot of bullying inside this trash, crap school students suffer and the school does nothing about it, don't defend the students. The bullies act like angels IN front of the teachers and then turn into a devil when the teacher is not looking at them. And most times teachers defend the bully and not the students who are suffering bullying. I was suffering bullying physically a lot of times and the teachers just watch and do nothing I was pushed punched, pinched, teased, yelled at, there is a lot of verbal bullying inside this school. The shit school never helps you. The bully never gets in trouble, the victim does. The victim feels scared and doesn't tell anyone and stays quiet scared of the bully know and bully the victim even more. Please trust your child when they complain about this shit school mostly about the bullying. Please help your child learn how to defend themselves, and always go to the school to protect your child. Please do not send your child here Close Quote

Open Quote Excessive bullying that the school does nothing to prevent. They DO NOT watch the kids incidents occur in classrooms and designated supervised areas. My children were slapped, kicked, choked on several occasions which the teachers only said claimed they realized because the children brought it their attention and other children verified it. On one occasion my daughter was sexually exposed and mocked in the middle of a classroom by her peers all of which the teacher claimed to not see. Well what were you doing? They only care about money and will do anything to get it. Fundraisers are joke they promise kids prizes that they will not receive. Close Quote

Open Quote Staff and teachers are all amazing! They truly care about the well being of each child. My daughter got a small cut on the playground and after being sent to the school nurse to have it cleaned they called me to let me know. It was a small scratch. My daughter didn't even cry. But they cared enough to let me know. They keep me well informed on all events, cancellations, emergencies, fundraisers, field trips. They don't force and stress the children over the standardized testings like the public schools do. They care about each individual child more than their ratings given by the general public for their test scores. Thank God, because the amount of stress put on these young children today is unacceptable. And just to have a good school rating for popularity purposes. No school out there if perfect. But this one by far stands out the best. I have heard countless complaints from friends who have their children in the public schools. Yea, they look prettier and have prettier scores. But seriously, my child NEVER comes home stressed from pressure like the public school kids are. And she's excelling. She gets outdoor play. Daily. This is a no brainer. Close Quote

Open Quote The only complaint I have about this school is with the 6th grade Science teacher. My daughter has never been one of the kids to get in trouble and has always received good grades. This teacher is not very good and is really mean to the students. My daughter has talked to me numerous times about her and even was talking about wanting to change schools just over this one period she has. Teachers should never make a student feel that way. If there is a bully in the school I would say it is this teacher not the students. I am going to have my daughter bring her book home so I can teach her since her teacher clearly is not and is bullying her in class. I liked the school up until this point and my daughter loves her other teachers so I would say be warned of this lady if your kids are going in the 6th grade and make that extra effort at home to teach them. Open Quote We requested information on our child from the school. It took three months before we got any acknowledgment only after involving the Department of Education. Even after all of that, there has been no resolution. After speaking with the Principal, Deans and Assistant Principals, I doubt there will be any resolution without involving an attorney... all over a simple request that other schools take 3 days or less to process.

Good luck calling the office, there never appears to be anyone there to answer any questions or to even acknowledge the fact that I called. The condescending manner in which the office staff and principal treats parents and the amount of respect they demand out of parents is insanely unbalanced. The principal asks to be called Doctor as 'Principal' does not suffice however will shorten your name as if you were a student (i.e. James to Jimmy.) Her secretary responds to you if you were a Kindergardener: "Hun" and "Sweetie." Close Quote
