Summary

Allen Park Elementary School in Fort Myers, FL, is a large elementary school serving 926 students in grades PK-5, and it is part of the Lee school district.

This school has experienced a significant decline over the past decade, dropping from a top-tier 4-star rating in 2015-2016 to a current 1-star rating, placing it in the 23rd percentile statewide. While the school’s Science proficiency is on par with the district average, its English Language Arts (ELA) and Math scores are notably below district and state levels, suggesting foundational skills in reading and math are a major area of concern. On a positive note, the most recent year shows a slight uptick in performance, with improvements in nearly every subject, including a dramatic jump in 5th-grade Science from 32% to 55% proficiency. This could indicate that recent efforts are beginning to take effect.

Compared to nearby schools, Allen Park has a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 18.1:1, which is higher than many peers like Edgewood Academy (13.9) and Orangewood Elementary School (19.4). Interestingly, Tanglewood Elementary School spends less per student ($11,651) but achieves dramatically better results (71st percentile), while Allen Park spends $12,659 per student. This suggests that the school’s challenges are not solely due to a lack of funding. A nearby school with a similar demographic profile, Orangewood Elementary, has shown dramatic improvement, jumping from the 4th to the 31st percentile in just one year, proving that significant progress is possible in the same community. In contrast, the high-performing Edison Park Creative and Expressive Arts School, a magnet school just over a mile away, ranks in the 76th percentile, highlighting the potential impact of specialized programs.

Open Quote As a parent and a teacher at Allen Park, I can tell you that this school and it's teachers are dedicated to academic excellence and the mental, emotional, and character growth of their students. The opportunities for students to explore the world around them abound with a particular focus on developing 21st Century Skills. I highly recommend touring our school and seeing for yourself what makes Allen Park stand out from the crowd. Close Quote

Open Quote Sub par, the placing of academic performance is old school and doesn't allow the children to interact with different children. They are tracked according to performance and basically the low stay low and the high stay high, sad state of education. However, I gave it an extra star because my child is in the advanced and receives more than the lower performance classrooms. Still wish is was equal to all. Close Quote

Open Quote Allen Park Elementary is a "hidden treasure" of learning. The students are placed in classrooms based on their academic performance. My child has made huge gains because she is placed with students that learn at her level/speed. She is a 4th grader and reads above grade level and performs above grade level in math. This allows her teacher to focus on enrichment activities, project based learning, and she loves the challenge. The teachers contact us all the time with great stories and successes. I feel comfortable going to the school for activities... The staff cares about the students. I will be sad in a few years when we are forced to go to Middle School. It will be tough to top ALLEN PARK Close Quote
