Summary

Collins Pk-8 School in Riverview, FL, is a large public school serving 1,644 students from Pre-K through 8th grade, making it the largest school in its area and part of the Hillsborough County School District. This school stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced courses, with 84% of students proficient in Algebra 1 and 79% in Civics End-of-Course exams, significantly outpacing district and state averages. Additionally, 70% of 8th graders are proficient in math, the highest among comparable PK-8 schools in the area, including Kids Community College Riverview South (K-12) (64%) and Riverview Academy Of Math And Science (79%). Collins also boasts a lower chronic absenteeism rate (28.2%) than the district (31.3%) and state (31.4%) averages, and notably lower than nearby elementary schools like Summerfield Elementary School (37.2%) and Summerfield Crossings Elementary School (36.0%).

However, Collins presents a "tale of two schools" with its elementary grades (3-5) performing at or slightly below district and state averages in English Language Arts and Math, while its middle school grades show mixed results. A notable weakness is a 7th-grade math proficiency of just 38%, which mirrors a systemic issue across the district (39%) but is a critical area for improvement. Despite this, students who persist see a strong rebound by 8th grade, suggesting the school's middle school program is particularly effective. The school's state ranking has declined from the 66th percentile in 2021-2022 to the 33rd percentile in 2025-2026, indicating a need for attention to overall performance trends.

Collins operates efficiently, spending $9,193 per student—less than most nearby elementary schools like Belmont Elementary School ($12,173) and Sessums Elementary School ($10,779)—with a higher student-teacher ratio of 18.2:1. This efficiency yields comparable results in many areas, but the declining ranking suggests additional investment may be needed. Compared to the high-performing Riverview Academy Of Math And Science (ranked 75th percentile), Collins excels in advanced courses but lags in overall consistency, making it a solid choice for families seeking a PK-8 model with strong middle school outcomes and lower absenteeism.

Open Quote Collins used to be a good school. Now there are teachers who dont know how to teach and if you ask them anything regarding your childs work, they wont like it.The principal is very ill-mannered.if u call him with any regards,he's not there and won't even return your call. All he cares about is FCAT. Open Quote Collins Elementary School is seriously lacking in staff academic preparedness. The kindergarten staff, as supported by the principal, is taking an entire nine weeks to assess the students. In the meantime, they cut, color and paste as a whole group. Very little attention is given to differentiating the education of students. There is no evidence of ability grouping, no brain-based learning, and little classroom management in place. If you are prepared to let your kindergarten student color, cut and paste for an entire nine weeks while your student loses his or her enthusiasm for learning then this school will meet your expectations. Our family was so disappointed that our kindergarten student was transferred to a private school. No public school experience should be so ineffective. Perhaps Rick Scott needs to stop cutting education funding and require all classroom teachers to aquire a masters degree, giving the teachers the support and resources they need to be effective.
