Summary

Bellamy Elementary School is a public school in Tampa, FL, serving 589 students in grades PK-5 within the Hillsborough district, where over 68% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. One of Bellamy’s strongest points is its 3rd-grade English Language Arts (ELA) performance, with 63% of students proficient—8 points above the district average and 3 points above the state. This is a notable achievement compared to nearby schools like Woodbridge Elementary School (42%) and Morgan Woods Elementary School (33%), suggesting effective early literacy support. However, 5th-grade science is a consistent challenge, with only 40% proficient—15 points below the district and 20 points below the state—contrasting sharply with Westchase Elementary School (79%) and Cannella Elementary School (65%).

Math performance shows an interesting pattern: 4th graders often excel, like in 2022-2023 when 75% were proficient (16 points above the district), but that same cohort dropped to 44% in 5th grade the next year. This suggests a potential issue with the 5th-grade math curriculum or transition. Bellamy spends $13,270 per student, higher than Westchase ($10,405) and charter schools like Horizon Charter School Of Tampa ($8,250), yet results are mixed. While spending doesn’t guarantee top scores, Bellamy performs better than Town & Country Elementary School, which spends even more ($16,931).

Chronic absenteeism is 30.2%, slightly below the district and state averages, and better than Davis Elementary School (37.5%) and Morgan Woods (40.4%). The school also has a strong student-teacher ratio of 14.9:1, smaller than Westchase (16.9:1) and Woodbridge (19.2:1). After a dip to a 1-star rating in 2024-2025, Bellamy rebounded to 2 stars in 2025-2026, with improvements in most subjects, indicating effective interventions. While nearby charters like Horizon show dramatically higher scores, Bellamy offers a solid, resource-rich option with targeted strengths in early literacy and manageable class sizes.

Open Quote Principal is amazing here! She inspires the teachers. Teachers are also amazing. I've only had one bad interaction (after almost 6 years here with my kids). That teacher transferred to Pasco County. Test scores are on the low side here - but it's a known fact that schools with challenging demographics have lower test scores. Do you know how many kids are the only fluent English speakers in their homes? These kids work so hard and the staff really is proud of them. Close Quote
