Summary

Rymfire Elementary School in Palm Coast, FL, is a mid-sized school serving 967 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the high-performing Flagler district, which ranks in the 80th percentile statewide.

Rymfire offers a stable, reliable educational option, consistently earning a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger and ranking around the 55th to 60th percentile over the past decade. While it is a solid school, it is not the top performer in its district, often being outperformed by nearby peers like Old Kings Elementary (79th percentile) and Belle Terre Elementary (65th percentile). One notable strength is in Science, where 65% of 5th graders were proficient in the most recent school year, beating both the district (61%) and state (60%) averages. However, its performance in Math and English Language Arts is more inconsistent and often trails the district. The school also spends significantly more per student ($12,379) than its competitors, yet this higher spending has not translated into higher academic outcomes, suggesting potential inefficiencies in resource allocation.

Compared to its closest rival, Bunnell Elementary (just 1.96 miles away), Rymfire is a much stronger option, outperforming it in nearly every academic metric. For example, Rymfire’s 5th-grade Science proficiency was 65% versus Bunnell’s 54%. On a positive note, Rymfire has a chronic absenteeism rate (30.3%) that is lower than both the district (31.6%) and state (31.4%) averages, indicating good student engagement. Additionally, the school has seen a dramatic drop in the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch, from 67% to 49% in just two years, signaling a changing demographic in its attendance zone. This shift has not yet led to a major jump in state ranking, which remains flat, suggesting the school may need time to adapt its instructional methods to maximize the potential of its evolving student body.
