Summary

Scenic Heights Elementary School is a K-5 school in Pensacola, FL, serving 773 students within the Escambia County School District, and it has earned a 3-star rating by ranking in the 60th percentile statewide.

Scenic Heights stands out as a stable, middle-of-the-pack option in a neighborhood with highly polarized school performance. While top-tier schools like N. B. Cook Elementary (5-star) and A. K. Suter Elementary (4-star) excel, and struggling schools like Ensley Elementary and O. J. Semmes Elementary lag far behind, Scenic Heights provides a reliable, solid education. Its most distinctive academic strength is in Mathematics, where proficiency rates consistently beat both district and state averages. However, its English Language Arts scores are more mixed, often falling at or just below the state average. This math-over-ELA profile is a clear differentiator from nearby high-performers like Cordova Park Elementary, which excels in both subjects.

The school’s biggest challenge is chronic absenteeism. While its rate of 22.7% is far better than the district average of 33.5%, it is still significantly higher than top-performing neighbors like N. B. Cook Elementary (8.6%) and Cordova Park Elementary (17.0%). This suggests that Scenic Heights is losing valuable instructional time, which likely caps its potential for higher academic achievement. Interestingly, the school serves a relatively more affluent population (42% free/reduced lunch) compared to many nearby schools, yet its performance does not match that of Cordova Park Elementary, which has a similar economic profile but achieves significantly higher test scores. To break into the top tier, Scenic Heights must aggressively address its absenteeism problem, which is the single biggest factor separating it from the 4 and 5-star schools in its vicinity.

Open Quote Scenic Heights Elementary School is where I attended growing up and the school was always a beautiful place. The gardens were always kept nice and alive, the playground was a place where fun and safty meshed together in an amazing was, and the library was always kep organized and neat. The teachers there are jusrt as great. They know how to get the material taught in a fun and easy way, but we still understood. They were also willing to give their services whenever it was needed. I truly love this school it iis a great contribution to this district. Close Quote
