Summary

Miami Arts Charter School is a high-performing, arts-focused public charter school in the Wynwood area of Miami, FL, serving 959 students in grades 6 through 12 within the Miami-Dade district.

This school stands out for its exceptional and consistent academic performance, earning a 5-star rating and ranking 78th out of 838 high schools in Florida for the 2025-2026 school year. Its proficiency rates in core subjects like Algebra 1 (87%), Geometry (85%), and Biology 1 (89%) dramatically outpace nearby comprehensive schools such as Booker T. Washington Senior High and Law Enforcement Officers Memorial High School, placing it in the same elite category as magnet programs like Design & Architecture Senior High (DASH) and School For Advanced Studies-Wolfson (SAS-Wolfson). The school achieves these top-tier results with remarkable efficiency, spending $12,420 per student—far less than lower-performing schools like Young Men's Preparatory Academy ($22,150) and a fraction of the $71,087 spent per student at Miami Technical At Mater Innovation Academy.

A key challenge for Miami Arts Charter School is its high chronic absenteeism rate of 38.1% (2023-2024), which is significantly higher than the district (28.2%) and state (31.4%) averages. This is a stark contrast to its high-achieving peers like DASH (17.4%) and SAS-Wolfson (4.4%). The school's near-zero rate of students receiving free or reduced lunch (0.83%) suggests the absenteeism is not driven by economic hardship, but may stem from other factors like student burnout or family travel. Despite this challenge, the school has maintained its elite academic standing, indicating that its curriculum and instruction are highly effective for the students who are consistently present.

Open Quote Overall it is a very good school. The only thing that really bothers me is that even though it is a performing arts school it is very limited on sports. It would be nice if it were bigger had a variety of afterschool activities that the students could partake in besides their art. Close Quote

Open Quote The new Homestead MAC is horrible. Stay away from it they shouldn't have been allowed to become a charter because the school is very poorly run. It is not what they promised us when we originally signed up. Close Quote

Open Quote I can honestly say bringing my child to MAC was the best choice I could have ever made. The school never ceases to impress me and my child would always come home sharing more stories of the school. Close Quote

Open Quote Overall, I have to say this school is amazing. The kids here are so welcoming to the upcoming new students, and the academics are challenging enough for all the grades. The teachers are committed to the students and they are so expressive when it comes to the arts.
I am so glad i brought my child here.
thank you Mac, GO MOORAYS! Close Quote

Open Quote My child has been attending for two years. Initially the quality of the teachers seemed to be good but every few months the best teachers are let go and replaced with cheaper, less experienced and not qualified replacements. Extra-curricular activities are non existent and forget about any parent teacher involvement. You cannot get an appointment to speak to anyone in the school about your child regardless of how many times you try. There is zero feedback. You find out your child's progress when you get the report card when it's too late to effect the outcome. There is no parent teacher interaction and no attempt by the school to involve the parents in anything.

Overall, the impression is this school is run for profit, is in over their heads, severely understaffed and overworked. Everything good for the students is seemingly secondary to making or keeping the school profitable. It is not a good school if your child is gifted or excels academically. Find another school. Open Quote My daughter has attended this school since it's inception. Even though I love the fact that she is learning a new skill, I hate the fact that the academic portion of school is completely neglected. I'm pulling her out this year. I cannot deal with this school's inability to communicate with parents and provide a stable learning environment. Your kid could be failing all their work and you will never get a call from a teacher. Try contacting the director, you will never get a call back either. I think this school has good intentions but they're in over their heads. Close Quote

Open Quote My child started in the music program at MAC. I am so impressed with the discipline of the students and the level of care of the administration and teachers. With the appropriate funding this is slated to become a top, top charter school- heads up Miami Dade Coutny Public Schools School Board and give some recognition in the way of funding to exceptional schools - the parents here pay taxes too. Cannot say enough good things and cannot wait to see how my child and this school develop. Close Quote
