Summary

Ada Merritt K-8 Center is a high-performing public magnet school in Miami, Florida, serving 770 students from prekindergarten through 8th grade. The school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with exceptional academic performance that significantly outpaces the Miami-Dade and Florida state averages across all grade levels and subject areas.

While Ada Merritt K-8 Center's academic achievements are impressive, the school has experienced a notable increase in chronic absenteeism rates, rising from 5.3% in 2020-2021 to 31.4% in 2023-2024. This is a concern that the school should address to ensure students maintain consistent attendance and continue to thrive academically. Additionally, the school serves a relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 22.73% to 37.05% over the past few years, suggesting a more affluent student population compared to nearby schools like Riverside Elementary School and Downtown Miami Charter School.

The higher per-student spending and lower student-teacher ratio at Ada Merritt K-8 Center, compared to the Miami-Dade district and Florida state averages, suggest that the school has access to more resources and a more favorable learning environment. This may contribute to the school's exceptional academic performance, but it also raises questions about the distribution of resources and whether other schools in the district are receiving adequate funding and support.

Open Quote Great school! Everyone is very involved and caring from the staff to teachers and principal. It also requires a lot of parent involvement especially with homework as children learn two languages at the same time. I am very happy with the school. Close Quote

Open Quote Beautiful looking school but unconcerned staff. Office staff and administration are so rude and unprofessional. Teachers have their preferences. My kid was being bullied and nobody cared. All they care about is fundraising. They expect a lot from you but do not address our concerns. Very disappointing! Close Quote
