Summary

City/Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School in Pembroke Pines, FL, is a high-performing public charter school serving 1,353 students in grades 6-8 within the Broward district, consistently ranking in the top 10% of all Florida middle schools.

This school stands out for its exceptional academic performance, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math reaching 88-91% and 82-88% respectively across all grades—a full 20-30 percentage points higher than the district average. In advanced coursework, the school achieves near-perfect scores, with 99% proficiency in Algebra 1 and Geometry, and a perfect 100% in Biology 1. This performance rivals that of Somerset Academy Middle (Miramar Campus), but with a student body over three times larger. The school also boasts a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of 9.3%, dramatically lower than the district average of 33.6% and far better than nearby high-performing schools like Falcon Cove Middle School (24.8%).

What makes this school particularly impressive is its consistent upward trajectory—its state rank has improved from the 88th percentile to the 95th percentile over the past five years. The contrast with nearby New Renaissance Middle School is stark: City/Pembroke Pines achieves 88% proficiency in 6th-grade ELA versus 56%, and 88% in 6th-grade Math versus 47%. The school achieves these elite outcomes at scale with a moderate budget of $11,666 per student, demonstrating efficient spending that produces high results. While 8th-grade Math proficiency (84%) is slightly lower than other grades, this likely reflects many students taking advanced Algebra 1 courses where they score 99%, rather than any weakness in instruction.

Open Quote It's unfortunate that some of the teacher make differences or show preference toward some students and treat others, especially those with special needs in such bad way. Teachers are supposed to be the role model of the school. We know and understand that our children are not little kid anymore but more patience should be shown during these transition ages.
