Summary

Silver Trail Middle School in Southwest Ranches, FL, serves 1,187 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Broward district. This school stands out for its exceptional advanced coursework program, with near-perfect proficiency rates on high school-level End-of-Course exams: 94% in Algebra 1, 95% in Geometry, and 100% in Biology 1. These scores rival top-performing nearby schools like City/Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School and Falcon Cove Middle School. Additionally, Silver Trail boasts an incredibly low chronic absenteeism rate of just 4.7%, far below the district average of 33.6% and every nearby school, including Somerset Academy Middle School (9.3%) and New Renaissance Middle School (29.2%).

However, a closer look reveals a significant "8th Grade Math Dip." While 6th and 7th graders perform well above district and state averages on the FAST math assessment, only 25% of 8th graders are proficient—compared to 47% district and 61% state. This pattern is also seen at Tequesta Trace Middle School (38%) and Glades Middle School (25%), but the gap is most pronounced at Silver Trail. The likely reason is that the highest-performing 8th-grade math students take the Algebra 1 EOC (where the school excels), leaving a less-prepared group for the standard 8th-grade test. This suggests the school is highly effective at accelerating top students but may need to focus more on the general student population in 8th-grade math.

Interestingly, spending per student and student-teacher ratios do not predict success here. Silver Trail has a moderate spending level ($9,679/student) and a higher-than-average student-teacher ratio (25.2:1), yet achieves strong overall results. In contrast, Lawton Chiles Middle School has the highest spending ($14,663/student) and lowest ratio (17.7:1) but ranks in the bottom 25th percentile. Meanwhile, Somerset Academy Middle (Miramar Campus) achieves a 5-star rating with a much lower student-teacher ratio (20.4:1) and serves a more economically diverse population. This highlights that school culture, curriculum, and teacher quality matter more than raw financial inputs alone.

Open Quote I hated this school. I pretended that I was sick just so I didn't have to go to school. This is a very clique-ish school that only accepts you if you are like everyone else. The teachers shout a lot and are very unhelpful and mean. Take it from someone who has gone here for two years. I do not recommend this school to anyone. In fact, I started taking my classes online because I was bullied so much. DO NOT SEND YOUR KID TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Close Quote

Open Quote A very strict school! The teachers are wonderful, and they keep the records "on line" very updated. The comm with the parents is very fluent. They have a system to announce everything and keep in touch by phone. Close Quote
