Summary

Wilton Manors Elementary School is a mid-sized elementary school in Wilton Manors, FL, serving 542 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the Broward County Public School District.

This school is currently at a critical turning point. While its student population is becoming more economically diverse—with the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch dropping sharply from 72% to 49.6% in just two years—its academic performance has been declining for three consecutive years. This is unusual, as a decrease in poverty rates often correlates with rising test scores. The school's state ranking has fallen to the 40th percentile, a significant drop from its recent peak. A bright spot is the current 4th-grade class, which scored 65% proficient in both ELA and Math, matching the district average. However, the 3rd-grade class is struggling, especially in reading, suggesting a need for early intervention. Chronic absenteeism remains a persistent challenge, with a rate of 32.8% that is higher than the state average and much worse than the nearby Somerset Village Academy, which keeps its students in class more consistently despite having a much higher poverty rate.

For parents, the key takeaway is that Wilton Manors Elementary is a school in transition. It spends more per student ($14,767) than many nearby schools, but this investment isn't yet translating into top-tier results. For comparison, the high-performing Bayview Elementary spends less and achieves far better outcomes. The school's declining trajectory, even as its student body becomes more affluent, suggests it may be losing some of its higher-performing families to other options. The school is at an inflection point where it must reverse this trend, and the success of its 4th-grade cohort shows that improvement is possible. Parents should closely monitor the school's progress and ask about plans to address chronic absenteeism and support the struggling 3rd-grade class.
