King/Robinson Magnet School

Public, Magnet Grades PK, KG-8
Summary

King/Robinson Magnet School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the New Haven School District, with 436 students. Despite being a magnet school, it has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Connecticut elementary schools over the past decade, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Academically, King/Robinson Magnet School significantly underperforms compared to state and district averages, with only 14-20% of students proficient in English Language Arts and 0-20% proficient in math in recent years. The school also has very high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 35-37.5%, much higher than the state average of 12-15%. Additionally, the school serves a high-poverty student population, with 70-80% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Compared to other nearby magnet schools, such as Mauro-Sheridan Magnet School and Celentano BioTech Health and Medical Magnet School, King/Robinson Magnet School significantly underperforms on academic measures. This suggests the school may be underfunded and lacking in resources to adequately support its high-needs student population. Addressing the school's systemic challenges, including chronic absenteeism, will be critical to improving educational outcomes for its students.

Open Quote Since enrolling my first child at King/Robinson, I have been throughly pleased with the school and the curriculum they provide. I now have both my children in the school and they both are in the French Immersion Program. They are challenged each day so that they don't ever feel bored or lose interest in what they are learning. My husband and I also love that they are learning how to be active and knowledgeable members of their local and global communities. I give this school 5 stars hands down. Close Quote
