Summary

Victory Boulevard Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 466 students in North Hollywood within the Los Angeles Unified district, notable for its remarkable academic improvement in recent years.

The school's standout story is its impressive upward trajectory, climbing from a low state ranking six years ago to now performing above average in math and science, with particularly strong results for English Learners and Hispanic students. This improvement is happening even as the school faces a significant challenge with student attendance, having one of the highest chronic absenteeism rates in the area. Compared to nearby schools like John B. Monlux Elementary (which has higher scores and better attendance) and charter schools like ISANA Palmati Academy (which achieves higher proficiency with less funding), Victory Boulevard spends more per student, suggesting a focus on intensive resources to support its high-need community.

Key takeaways for parents include the school's clear momentum and effective support for specific student groups, balanced by the need to address attendance. Performance varies by grade, with fifth graders excelling in English while fourth graders struggle, indicating room for consistency. The school's mathematics instruction is a particular strength that outpaces both the district and state. Victory Boulevard represents a school on the rise, demonstrating that strong gains are possible even amidst challenges, with the potential for even greater success if it can learn from higher-performing peers and improve daily attendance.
