Summary

Webster Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in the Mesa Unified District in Mesa, Arizona, with 581 students. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Arizona elementary schools over the past several years, with a current ranking of 777 out of 909 schools and a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Webster Elementary's academic performance is significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 22% of 4th graders and 23% of 6th graders were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 44% and 43% respectively for the Mesa Unified District. The school also has a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 79.86% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year. Despite spending more per student ($9,239 in 2021-2022) than the district average, Webster Elementary has not been able to improve its academic outcomes.

While Webster Elementary is underperforming, some of the nearby schools within the same district, such as Emerson Elementary and Adams Elementary, are also struggling to achieve high academic outcomes. This suggests that the challenges faced by Webster Elementary may be systemic within the Mesa Unified District and not unique to the school. The low student-teacher ratio of 15.4 at Webster Elementary could be an opportunity for the school to provide more individualized attention and support to students, but this has not yet translated into improved academic performance.
