Summary

Beckendorff J H in Katy, TX, is a high-performing public middle school serving 1,674 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Katy Independent School District (Isd), consistently ranking in the top 2% of all Texas middle schools.

Beckendorff stands out for its exceptional academic consistency and efficiency. It has earned a 5-star rating every year since 2015-2016 and currently ranks #21 out of 2,335 schools statewide, placing it slightly ahead of nearby elite schools like Seven Lakes J H (#26) and Tays J H (#22). A key differentiator is its outstanding 8th-grade Social Studies program, where 83.45% of students are proficient—a remarkable 28 percentage points above the district average and 52 points above the state average. Additionally, Beckendorff has achieved a perfect 100% proficiency rate on the Algebra I End-of-Course exam for four consecutive years, a feat unmatched by most peers. The school also excels in supporting all students, ranking in the 100th percentile for Special Education and the 99th percentile for students from low socio-economic backgrounds, demonstrating its ability to close achievement gaps effectively.

Interestingly, Beckendorff achieves these results with the lowest per-student spending ($8,216) among nearby Katy ISD schools, compared to Memorial Parkway J H ($11,386) and West Memorial J H ($10,723), suggesting highly efficient resource use. While a universal "7th-grade math dip" affects all district schools, Beckendorff manages this challenge better than most, with 7th-grade math scores nearly double the state average. The contrast with David Crockett Middle in Fort Bend Independent School District (Isd) highlights the impact of district resources and community support, as Crockett has a 69.48% free/reduced lunch rate and ranks in the 68th percentile, while Beckendorff has a 22.64% rate and ranks in the 99th percentile.

Open Quote Among the academic and pre-ap and GT programs; they also have excellent programs for Orchestra, Band and Chorus. Also as extracurricular activities they have an excellent program in Science and Technology. In its short history (just 4 years) they're become one of the most successful teams to participate in the prestigious Science Olympiad Tournament, placing 15th (2007), 5th (2008), 3rd (2009) and 1st (2010) (State champions) and in its first time at Nationals Tournament they placed 8th among the 60 best teams nationwide (2010). It is the only school to reach the "top ten" in its first participation in a national tournament and also the fastest school (in just 4 years) to achieve this rank. The Beckendorff's staff is very dedicated and dilligent. Close Quote
