Summary

Elkins Elementary in Fort Worth, TX, serves 654 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Eagle Mt-Saginaw Independent School District (Isd), and is located in a community where about 57-60% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Elkins Elementary has experienced a significant decline over the past decade, dropping from a top-performing school in the 71st percentile to its current 22nd percentile ranking. The most pressing concern is a critical weakness in mathematics, where proficiency rates are consistently 10-22 percentage points below state averages across all grade levels. For example, 4th-grade math proficiency sits at just 27%, compared to nearby Lake Pointe Elementary (1.43 miles away), which achieves 55% proficiency in the same subject. Reading scores are closer to district and state averages, but the school's overall struggles are most pronounced in math. Interestingly, 5th-grade math showed a brief bright spot in 2024-2025, nearly matching the state average, but this improvement was not sustained.

Despite spending over $10,800 per student—higher than many nearby schools like Lake Pointe Elementary ($8,667) and Dozier Elementary ($9,311)—Elkins' academic outcomes are among the lowest in the area. This raises questions about how resources are being used. For context, Lake Country Elementary (1.59 miles away) serves a similar number of students but has a much lower free/reduced lunch rate (33%) and consistently outperforms Elkins in nearly every subject, ranking in the 57th percentile. Elkins is at a critical juncture where targeted, data-driven intervention is urgently needed to reverse its downward trend.

Open Quote School is horrible. Abuse and neglect for students.teachers dont care about teaching and the principal is so rude she wants it her way or no way. Looks like she sits behind a desk way to much. My kid has been body slammed, punched and called dumb...he is six years old. I sit at the school all day because its not safe and they wont transfer him Close Quote
