Summary

Obadiah Knight Elementary is a PK-5 public school in Dallas, TX, serving 279 students within the Dallas Independent School District (Isd), where over 98% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, reflecting a highly economically disadvantaged community.

This school stands out for its exceptional bilingual program, with 5th graders achieving 65.2% proficiency on the STAAR Spanish Reading exam in 2025-2026—far exceeding the state average of 34.8% and outperforming nearby schools like Stephen C Foster Elementary and Julian T Saldivar Elementary. Similarly, 50% of 5th graders were proficient in math, surpassing both district and state averages. However, the school’s overall state ranking has been volatile, dropping to the 24th percentile (1 star) in 2025-2026 after reaching the 71st percentile (4 stars) the prior year. This pattern of sharp declines followed by recoveries raises questions about consistency, especially for special education and low-income students, whose performance swung dramatically from top-tier to below average in just one year.

In contrast, Biomedical Preparatory At Ut Southwestern, just 0.83 miles away, serves a less economically disadvantaged population (55.4% free/reduced lunch) and achieves elite results (96th percentile, 5 stars), highlighting how socioeconomic factors shape outcomes. While Obadiah Knight excels with English Language Learners, its Gifted and Talented students rank in the bottom quartile, suggesting limited advanced curriculum. Despite these challenges, the school’s bilingual strength offers a replicable model for other high-poverty schools in the district.

Open Quote The school has very few programs or activities for the students. Do not expect to see your children involve in school programs, carnivals or field day. The administration has not been keeping up with the up keep of the school. Parents and stake holders involvement is none due to the current poor leadership. Close Quote
