Open Quote Community Charter School is more then just a school for my family, it is a community of teachers, students and parents who are helping to form the present and future of my children. My oldest has been attending since the 2011-2012 school year, when she started Kindergarten. Now her younger sister will be starting for the 2015-2016 school year. It is wonderful to know that my youngest already knows and is known by all the teachers and staff who are at CCS. Close Quote

Open Quote CCS is Charlotte's best kept charter school secret! You get a private school experience for a public school price tag! My daughter is in Kindergarten and we've thoroughly enjoyed our experience so far. The school is small- 1 class per grade, as a general rule, which really contributes to the family feel of the school. All of the teachers know each student and everyone is equally invested in ensuring that each child's needs are met. The principal, Ms. Miller, is excellent and works tirelessly to ensure the success of the school and the students. I applied to 2 other charter schools for the 2014-2015 school year- my child was wait-listed at both (like #400 out of 500 applicants!). I randomly found CCS and couldn't believe that there was not any competition to get into here! We love this school and are looking forward to watching it grow. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
