Open Quote Okay, I work in Carroll County, but I don't have school-aged children.

Here're my two cents on this issue:

If we can't even have one person from the school district that even knows a student that goes there well enough to write a review about the school, what does that say about the residents of that school district as a whole??

Think about that the next time you think of moving to Carroll County because of the schools.

If you can afford the private schools nearby, like Kirk, Pillow, or any of the other academies, send them there if you want them to be in a more academically challenging environment, which is what they seem to be, though I wouldn't count on Carroll or Winona Christian to be the most academically challenging schools. They're good schools, but WC and Carroll are just too all about sports and preparing them for schools like Ole Miss not enough about getting your kids prepared to go to the the academically rigorous colleges like Vanderbilt, Tulane, or even Millsaps or Mississippi College for that matter.

But, if you're White or Asian, or even Latino, and not from the area, It appears that, like many nearby remote rural schools like George, it will be not only not an academically challenging environment, but it will be a total fish-out of water experience for your child.

I'm not saying "Don't move to Carroll County", just think about that if you are considering moving with a family to Carroll County. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
