Summary

Tioga Elementary School in Ball, LA, serves 482 students from Pre-K through 6th grade within the Rapides Parish school district, and has shown a clear upward trend in performance over the past decade, now ranking in the 62nd percentile statewide.

Tioga stands out for its strong English Language Arts (ELA) performance, with 80% of all students proficient—10 points above the state average. This strength is especially notable in 4th and 6th grades, where proficiency reaches 86% and 88%, respectively. The school also excels in serving its student population despite high economic need (88% qualify for free/reduced lunch). For example, Tioga significantly outperforms nearby schools with even higher poverty rates, such as Alma Redwine Elementary, Acadian Elementary, and L.S. Rugg Elementary School, often by 15-20 percentage points in core subjects. Additionally, Tioga has made remarkable progress in reducing chronic absenteeism, dropping from 37.4% in 2020-2021 to just 14.5% in 2024-2025—better than both the district (17.5%) and state (22.5%) averages.

An interesting comparison is with its nearest neighbor, Paradise Elementary School, which has a lower poverty rate and a higher overall ranking. Yet Tioga matches or exceeds Paradise in several key areas, including 4th-grade ELA (86% vs. 81%) and chronic absenteeism (14.5% vs. 17.5%). Tioga also shows a strong commitment to equitable outcomes, performing notably well for its African American students (64th percentile) and students from low socio-economic backgrounds (61st percentile). While 3rd-grade math is a challenge (53% proficiency), the school’s 5th graders achieve 71% proficiency, outpacing the state by 10 points—suggesting effective interventions after 3rd grade. Overall, Tioga is a stable, reliable option in the community, offering strong literacy instruction and a supportive environment for all students.

Open Quote I am a parent and Tioga Elementary seems to be a great school. My son is now in the first grade and has been there for 3years now. PreK, Kindergarten, and now he is almost done is first grade. So far I have had **GREAT time with his teachers. They email and call and keep me up to date. My son has loved all three of his teachers and he is still making straight A's. Close Quote
