Summary

Rivers Edge Elementary School in Port St. Lucie, FL, is a mid-sized elementary school serving 778 students in grades PK-5 within the St. Lucie district, and it stands out as a reliable, solid choice for families seeking consistent academic performance in a predominantly low-income area.

One of the school's biggest strengths is its remarkable stability. Unlike nearby schools like Fairlawn Elementary School, which is a high-flyer, or Weatherbee Elementary School, which has seen significant drops, Rivers Edge has maintained a steady mid-tier ranking for the past five years. It particularly shines in 5th-grade science, where 69% of students are proficient—well above the district and state averages. The school also shows a positive trend in English Language Arts (ELA), with 5th graders outperforming 3rd graders, which is the opposite of what many nearby schools experience. Additionally, Rivers Edge operates efficiently, spending less per student ($10,309) than many neighbors like St. Lucie Elementary School ($13,395) while achieving better academic results.

However, there are a few patterns to note. A recurring "math dip" occurs in 4th grade, where proficiency drops significantly from 3rd grade levels before recovering in 5th grade. The school also reports 100% proficiency in 6th-grade math, but this likely reflects a small group of advanced 5th graders taking a higher-level course, not the general student body. On the positive side, Rivers Edge has a lower chronic absenteeism rate (28.1%) than the district average (34.4%) and many nearby schools, suggesting a more engaged student body. Overall, while it may not be the top performer in the area, Rivers Edge offers a stable, above-average education—especially in science and upper-grade ELA—making it a strong "safe bet" for families in Port St. Lucie.

Open Quote Went to go pick up my girlfriends daughter today at Rivers Edge Elementary in Port Saint Lucie. Was waiting in the car lane like everyone else but i guess 3 drivers thought it was a good idea to skip the line and go in the wrong direction will passing over a double solid line and going over 20 miles an hour to beat the oncoming traffic just to get to the school faster. When is something going to be done about this? I went into the office to complain and this is the answer i got "YEA WE KNOW" Really lady, are you guys waiting for a child to get run over by a parent that is such in a hurry that they break 3 traffic laws and endanger the lives of others on the property to get to the school a few minutes sooner.
