Summary

Forest Grove Middle School in Fort Pierce, FL, serves 855 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the St. Lucie district, which ranks in the 46th percentile statewide. The school has a 2-star rating and sits in the 34th percentile of Florida middle schools, a notable improvement from recent years when it held a 1-star rating.

Forest Grove presents a striking contrast in academic performance. Its advanced math program is exceptional: 86% of students were proficient in Algebra 1 and 98% in Geometry in 2025-2026, far exceeding district and state averages. However, grade-level math tells a different story—only 27% of 6th graders and 15% of 7th graders met standards, roughly half the rate at nearby Southport Middle School (62% and 40%). English Language Arts scores are more consistent, with 52-54% proficiency across grades, though still below state averages. The school has also made a dramatic turnaround in chronic absenteeism, dropping from 59.5% in 2022-2023 to 21.4% in 2023-2024—now the lowest among its St. Lucie peers, including Southern Oaks Middle School (33.0%) and Dan McCarty Middle School (55.6%).

Compared to schools in higher-performing neighboring districts, the gap is clear. For instance, Hidden Oaks Middle School in the Martin district has 79% of 6th graders proficient in ELA and 72% in math. Interestingly, Dan McCarty, just two miles away, spends significantly more per student ($14,127 vs. $11,072) and has a lower student-teacher ratio (15.6 vs. 19.4), yet its academic performance is on par with or slightly below Forest Grove's. This suggests Forest Grove may be using its resources more effectively, even as it works to extend its advanced-track success to the broader student body.

Open Quote My son attended Forest Grove as part of the MOA Prep program. As a result, my son was surrounded by the best and brightest students in the county. The quality of instruction from the staff was excellent and challenging and the administration did a great job of inspiring learning while maintaining discipline and a safe environment. My son graduated at the top of his class and I credit his time at Forest Grove for setting the stage for excelling in a competitive environment where expectations are high and competition to be the best, not average, is the norm. The best middle school in the county. Close Quote

Open Quote I know this school is good for the children of Fort Pierce. The progress of this school during the past year is amazing. All the kids I mentor really enjoy coming to school. The parents of the kids I mentor state their kids come home and talk about what he is being taught. The kids say they feel the faculty supports and care for them. The teaching staff are very good at nurturing and developing the children's academic skills as well as social interaction and productive play. I personally love this school, keep it up, good teachers - you guys are so welcoming. There are kids who’ve had some ups and downs during the past year, but the Principal and his staff are working feverishly to improve the students’ performance. They faculty always tries to resolve your issues once they are informed. I’m very grateful for the rich learning environment at Forest Grove. Close Quote

Open Quote I have two daughters, one in 8th and one in 6th, who attend the Marine Oceanographic Preparatory Academy (MOA Prep) at Forest Grove Middle School. We turned down seats to other wait listed schools in the area to attend MOA Prep and could not be more pleased. My husband and I are extremely happy with the challenging coursework provided to our children through the MOA Prep Program, and love the small and engaging learning environment that they are a part of at Forest Grove. From the cheerful greetings of Mrs. Ingram in the front office, to the support of administration in curricular and extracurricular activities, to the arts and after school clubs like underwater robotics and environmental club, to the high level of academic coursework and caring staff, we happily give Forest Grove Middle 5 stars!
