Summary

Sunset Palms Elementary School in Boynton Beach, FL, is a high-performing PK-5 school with 909 students, consistently earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger and ranking in the top 10% of all elementary schools in Florida. This school stands out for its exceptional academic performance, with proficiency rates far exceeding the Palm Beach district average—for example, 83% of 3rd graders are proficient in ELA compared to the district's 59%, and 80% of 5th graders are proficient in science versus the district's 60%. Sunset Palms also has a very low chronic absenteeism rate of 12.8%, roughly half the district average, and serves a community with a very low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch (8.47%).

Compared to nearby schools, Sunset Palms is a clear standout. For instance, Manatee Elementary School, the next closest high-performing school, has a 3rd grade ELA proficiency of 71% and 5th grade science of 68%, both well below Sunset Palms' scores. The contrast is even starker with Hagen Road Elementary School, located just 1.22 miles away, which has a much higher free/reduced lunch rate (35.97%) and significantly lower test scores, such as 52% proficiency in 5th grade science. This highlights how school performance can vary dramatically within a small geographic area due to attendance zone boundaries.

One interesting finding is a consistent dip in 4th grade math proficiency at Sunset Palms—only 52% of 4th graders were proficient in 2025, compared to 86% in 3rd grade and 84% in 5th grade. This pattern appears in many nearby schools, suggesting a district-wide curriculum challenge rather than a school-specific issue. Additionally, Sunset Palms' success is not driven by higher spending; it spends $14,021 per student, while lower-performing Indian Pines Elementary School spends $18,327 per student. This indicates that factors like family engagement and effective teaching are key drivers of the school's outstanding results.

Open Quote This school looks good on paper, but it is not a nurturing environment for young elementary students. The school has a very sterile feeling, and the administration (top down) is not open to parents or their concerns. The focus of the school is on test scores, period. If you are seeking a multi-faceted, kid-friendly education, I'd suggest looking at other schools in the area. In addition, the school has become overcrowded, and next year it will be even worse.
